We all need a “Zabud” in our lives!

Most of you are probably famaliar with King Solomon. He was a king who knew that he needed help ruling over the people. Do you know who Zabud is? His name is barely mentioned in the bible but he played an enormously important role in the life of King Solomon. Why would God give Zabud such an important part in Solomon’s life but we don’t really know that much about him. Let me tell you what we do know about him.

Zabud was one of eleven people who were Solomon’s chief officials (1 Kings 4:1-6). Zabud was one of four priests who served on staff. Of the four priests, only Zabud had the title of “personal adviser to the king.”

In 1 Kings 4:5, the Lord appeared to King Solomon in a dream and asked him, “Ask for whatever you want me to give to you.” Think about this for a moment. King Solomon was given the opportunity to “ask for anything” he wanted. What would you’re response have been? Solomon asked God for a discerning heart to govern the people and to distinguish right and wrong.

So what does all this have to do with Zabud? Plenty. Let me explain.

Solomon knew that he needed a team of people surrounding him to carry out his duties as king. Solomon was wise enough to understand that he needed at least one trustworthy person beside him to help make wise decisions. Zabud was “that guy.” Zabud served Solomon by being a personal advisor. How wonderful is that?

Can you imagine the conversations those two must have had? I wonder what they talked about when they had their meetings behind closed doors? Solomon knew he could not rule alone. He was smart enough to ask God for wisdom. Solomon’s success was due in part, I believe, my having Zabud as a personal advisor. Solomon knew that is wasn’t wise to rule the kingdom alone.

Do you have a Zabud in your life? If God has put you in a position of wealth, honor or power; do you have a personal advisor? Do you have a “Zabud” on your staff? Someone to talk to about important decisions that impacts you, your business or your family? If you don’t have someone speaking into your life on important matters, my question to you is simply, “Why not?”

My prayer is that you might grow and mature in the sphere of influence God has placed you. Pray and ask God to bring a Zabud into your life. The benefits that Solomon enjoyed by having a spiritual advisor was enormous. Just think of the benefits that you could have by having a spiritual advisor like Solomon.
