Our Four Mandates – Shepherding

As soon as I heard the word shepherding, I knew it represented the pastoral gifting. Jesus wasn’t necessarily telling me that I’d be a pastor or have a church. Shepherding has to do with loving people unconditionally and being tender towards them.

As a shepherd cares for and leads the little lambs, we love and disciple others to lead them to maturity in Christ. We all need to love as Jesus loves, and only Christ in us can love rightly. The first commandment is to love Him with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. The second is to love our neighbors as ourselves (see Mark 12:29-31).
